குடிசையில் வாழும் பம்பா, குலைந்து போன ஒரு குடும்பத்தில் பணியாளராக இருக்கிறார். ஒருநாள் அவரது உலகம் உடைபடுகிறது. முதலாளிக்கும், வீட்டுப் பணியாளருக்கும் இடையே இருக்கும் தெளிவற்ற கோட்டை தாண்டி, ஒருநிலை எடுக்கிறாள்.

தனது உயிரைப் பணயம் வைத்து குறுகிய பாதைகளில் நிலக்கரி வெட்டியெடுப்பவர்களின் வாழ்வைப் பேசுகிறது. இதில் ஏற்படும் மரணங்கள் சில சமயங்களில் வெளி உலகுக்கு தெரிவதில்லை.இறந்த உடல்களைக் கூட கோரமுடிவதில்லை. அவர்களுக்காக அழ முடிவதில்லை. இது அவர்களின் அன்றாட வாழ்வு.

மாருதி சுசூகி தொழிற்சாலையில் ஒரு மேலாளர் கொல்லப்பட்டதில் 147 தொழிலாளர்கள் மீது வழக்கு நடக்கிறது. 2500 பேர் வேலை நீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டனர். அவர்களது பிணை தொடர்ந்து மறுக்கப்படுகிறது. நீதிமன்றத்திற்கு வரும் தொழிலாளர்களை பார்க்க அவர்களது குடும்பத்தினர் காத்துக் கிடக்கின்றனர். அவர்களுக்கு நீதி என்பது எட்டாக்கனி ! வழக்கை எதிர்கொள்ளும் தொழிலாளர்கள், வேலைநீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டவர்களின் குடும்பங்கள் பற்றி பேசுகிறது இந்த ஆவணப்படம்)

In Glass, we see the art of glassblowing as a rhythmical play between hot glass and the precise timing of a craftsman. A complicated, dexterous ballet demonstrates the art of traditional glassblowing. This contrasts with the bigger glassworks, where everything is well-ordered. 

Sweet Biryani (Dir : Jeyachandra Hashmi; 24 min; Tamil; 2021)

Sweet Biriyani, a simple yet powerful film that deals with a delivery boy and his soulful experiences in a day.

The Last Run (Dir : Anirban Dutta; 36 min; Bengali with English subtitles; 2019)

A glorious past withering away in a fast-changing world – The film is about a Postal Runner, a person who runs or walks from one place to another carrying mail bags. The runner used to be held in high regard with tales of his valour coming to life in the myths and folk forms of the land. With improvements in modes of communication, the runner's profession has become almost redundant.

Hundreds of migrant workers assemble every morning near a roadside in Thrissur, Kerala to be picked up by potential Masters who would give them a job for a day or two. The film shows a glimpse of such a Waiting. 

Zelam (Dir: Pratim Waghmare; 19 min; Marathi with English subtitles; 2022)

A country boy with humble beginnings migrates to the city with the dream to make a decent living. He also wants to save enough money to bail out his father, who is being wrongfully held by prejudiced police officers. He overcomes multiple hardships but unforeseen circumstances halt his plans.

You Want Company (Dir: Mehak Matharu; 19 min; Hindi & English with English subtitles; 2022)

This film is a portrait of a young woman, who has moved from Assam to Bangalore to make a living.

Shimga (Dir: Sanat Ganu; 17 min; Marathi with English subtitles; 2022)

Shimga, the film, explores various layers of alienation between the privileged and the underprivileged. In the current times, the two economic classes seem to be separated by such a chasm that they struggle to understand each other's language, let alone empathise with one another.

Footprints (Dir: Tathagatha Ghosh; 23.28 min; Bengali with English subtitles; 2022)

Pampa, a single mother and a lower caste slum dweller, works as domestic help for a dysfunctional middle class family. As her world comes crashing down at work one day, Pampa must stand up for herself by blurring the lines between the master and the maid.

Rat Trap (Dir: Rupresh Sahu; 35 min; Hindi with English subtitles; 2022)

It is a film about the rat-hole coal miners who risk their lives to earn a livelihood. While doing this activity, many mishaps go unreported, which we cannot see from the outside. Their lives are devastating enough that they are called thieves in their own house, and during a case of mine collapse, they cannot even shed a tear or claim their loved ones’body. This film narrates their daily life.

147 workers of India’s biggest automobile manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki are on trial for the murder of a senior manager and 2500 workers dismissed. It has been two and a half years and the case drags on. Their bail application has been rejected by the courts. On each hearing they are led to the court room by the police while families line up to catch a glimpse. The defence lawyers plan their strategy in the court canteen. Justice seems a dim hope. The film follows the fate of the under trial workers, families and dismissed workers to investigate the underbelly of industrial conflict and the elusive nature of justice.

Sivakasi is a small town in Southern Tamilnadu. It is from here and the surrounding villages that 70% of the requirements of the match box industry and 90% of the fireworks industry are produced. 

The film is an attempt to portray the dailiness of their, the production process and the complex socio-political reasons that contribute to such a large employment of children in this area.

This documentary film records the life of Rajamma, a woman fish vendor in Trivandrum, Kerala, who travels daily to Thoothukudy harbour 200 km away to procure fish and sell it back in her hometown. It highlights the struggle and strength of unorganised working women, who survive because of sheer grit, in spite of overwhelming odds. 

Kaggantu

The Bangalore garment industry which works as the outsourced factories for a lot of multinational brands hire around 5 lakh women workers. The film revolves around two such women's lives and the problems they face due to lack of adequate facilities at the factories.

It is a portrayal of a 55-year-old woman who has modelled for art students and artists for 30 years.

In Search of Gold - a portrait of Kolar Gold Fields

Set in the once thriving colonial gold mining township of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), IN SEARCH OF GOLD attempts to understand the different lived and remembered histories of people who built this highly profitable enterprise. Aided by the grim imagery of now defunct mining operations, the film brings together narratives of collective socio-political struggles of the past, nostalgia for lost privilege, and the anxiety of an uncertain future, of a fragmented society.

The film chronicles the encroachment of vast stretches of a hilly land, the eviction of its rightful owners, the blatant exploitation of the laborers and their struggle for existence. It does not confine itself in narrating the evolution and impact of a labor struggle, but also focuses on another important social aspect in India, the significance of caste, the strangle hold it exerts on the psyche of the nation. 

The documentary holds its mirror to the dichotomy of underlying neglect and discrimination meted out to the hapless people belonging to the lower echelons of society. It explores the ruthless impact of policies on the ‘land’ and ‘soil’, its uneven distribution and the resultant irreparable and long standing damage it causes to the environment and fragile terrain, which is abound with precious flora and fauna.
